FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Phoenix TAKES POSSESSION OF SCHILLING UHD ROVsTuesday, January 16, 2007 -- Houston, TX -- Phoenix International, Inc., (Phoenix) announced that it has taken delivery of two ultra-heavy duty (UHD) work-class Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) from Schilling Robotics. UHD units 005 and 006 were delivered to Phoenix’s Bayou Vista, Louisiana facility where they will undergo final integration and testing prior to their mobilization in support of the Gulf of Mexico oil & gas industry. The UHDs use proprietary technology that results in a smaller size ROV of less weight but without any sacrifice in performance. This, in turn, provides more onboard space for a wider array of tools and instruments. The acquisitions are another step in Phoenix’s strategy to provide increasingly comprehensive and continually improved state-of-the-art underwater services to our oil & gas customers. The ROVs will be used by the company’s Houston based Subsea Projects Group for deepwater construction support. The Houston office provides project management and engineering services for light to medium subsea construction projects. Phoenix’s Bayou Vista, LA office will provide at-sea operators and logistics for UHD operations. Phoenix selected the 200 horsepower, 4,000 meter depth rated vehicles with a top-hat tether management system on the basis of the UHD’s flexibility, capability, and ruggedness. The powerful UHD’s deliver higher, more efficient thrust than competing systems, and have the ability to redirect power from propulsion to tooling operations. These features make them ideal for suction pile and flying lead installations, as well as for other heavy tooling operations typical in deepwater construction support. The new UHDs expand upon Phoenix’s established experience in routinely working in water depths 3,000 msw and beyond. Current ROV capabilities encompass medium to heavy work systems, submarine cable installation/excavation systems, and unique, small, battery powered inspection vehicles for operations in hazardous conditions or extreme depths (>7,000 meters). Phoenix is a marine services company that conducts high quality manned and unmanned underwater operations worldwide from six regional offices. Services are provided in underwater ship repair, deep ocean search/recovery, sub-sea construction support, inspection, cable/pipeline survey, submarine rescue, and design engineering.
