Position: Sr. Mechanical
Engineer / Manager, Engineering Group
Description: Under
limited supervision, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer / Manager manages the
mechanical engineering group (approximately 10 engineers), and develops,
executes, manages and coordinates project plans, including implementation of
schedules, budgets, and resource estimates, for a wide range of Engineering and
Operational projects as assigned. These projects range from small in-house
development tasks to underwater vehicle design, fabrication and operation; and
the development of special tools and equipment in support of marine search,
recovery, underwater ship repair, and marine construction. This position will be
responsible for the preparation of proposals, either as a proposal team member
or individually, including participation in oral presentations to the customer.
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer / Manager reports to the Engineering Manager and the
position is based in Largo, MD. Some travel is required, typically of limited
duration, but may require worldwide travel on emergency call out basis. This
position will be expected to work in the facility and possibly aboard ships at
sea.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 | Performs management administrative functions for the
mechanical engineering group such as hiring, evaluations, time sheet review,
etc. |
 | Participates in the establishment, organization, and
implementation of short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and
operating procedures; monitors and evaluates project effectiveness and effects
changes required for improvement |
 | Communicates regularly with management and
administration regarding the status of current project initiatives; obtains
executive guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives |
 | Represents projects to various in-house divisions and
components as well as to various external customers and entities |
 | Develops integrated project plans, implementation
schedules, and cost estimates for major, long-term projects; prepares and
manages project budgets and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses |
 | When required, efficiently and successfully coordinates
and directs operations requiring the support of subcontractors, military
personnel, and diverse groups of technical and professional personnel by
forming an effective team |
 | Leads, directs and reviews the work of other mechanical
engineers |
 | Leads or participates on and/or facilitates various
internal technical project teams |
 | Reports project and budget status to the client as
required in accordance with company policy and contract requirements |
 | Provides expert advice and consultation on submarine
rescue and underwater projects as requested |
 | Supports design and analyses through life cycle of the
product including conception, definition, build, and operation phases |
 | Performs structural, finite element, flexibility and fatigue analyses in
accordance with applicable commercial codes i.e., ASME B31.1 |
 | Designs, develops, and troubleshoots mechanical systems and components for
underwater vehicles |
 | Participates on and/or facilitates development and execution of logistics
support plans for complex marine operations worldwide |
 | Complies with company policies and safety standards |
 | Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned |
Requirements:
 | Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering |
 | Advanced degree (MSME, MBA) desirable |
 | PE license required |
 | Minimum 10 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and
responsibilities specified |
 | Experience and a working knowledge of ROV, search, and diving operations,
and associated logistic support for all phases of operational requirements is
highly desirable |
 | Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and
develop integrated, creative solutions |
 | Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and
tools including skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities |
 | Possess a thorough background in and knowledge of financial management,
including cost control and estimating; knowledge of inventory and property
control procedures |
 | Possess sound verbal and written communication skills |
 | Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals |
 | Ability to develop project budgets and projections |
 | Knowledge of configuration management and PLM tools |
 | Competence in standard desktop, engineering, and productivity software |
 | Extensive knowledge of Solidworks and Cosmosworks or similar CAD
applications required |
 | Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team
environment |
 | Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures,
formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and
procedures |
 | Work is normally performed in a typical office/warehouse work environment,
however on occasion work may be performed in a offshore environment |
 | Limited to moderate physical effort required |
 | Limited to moderate exposure to physical risk |
 | Must possess or be able to obtain a US government security clearance |
 | Must be able, and willing, to travel worldwide, on short notice for
indefinite periods of time |
