Phoenix is pleased to announce that it has named Randy Crowe and Josh Henderson as Co-Employees of the Year for 2024.
Randy Crowe
Throughout the year, Randy Crow supervised underwater welding operations in support of waterborne repairs for the Naval Sea Systems Command Diving and Diving related services contract on multiple vessels including the USS Oscar Austin, USS Eisenhower, and Ex-Milwaukee. His expertise in underwater ship husbandry, rigging, cofferdam manufacturing, installation, removal, and hyperbaric underwater welding procedures were critical in the successful repair of an emergent wet-welded doubler plate on the USS Eisenhower, thruster tunnel wet weld blanking on the Ex-Milwaukee, and a hull insert and margin plate repairs on the USS Oscar Austin.
In addition to these efforts, Randy conducted underwater welding operations on USS Ross, Ex-Little Rock, Ex-Detroit, Ex-Sioux City, and USS Truman, and the shaft flange inspection campaign on USS Eisenhower. These critical underwater repair operations are instrumental to the readiness of Naval warfighting ships and their return to supporting our Nation’s Maritime Mission.
Josh Henderson
Early in the year Josh worked diligently to help prepare the Remora remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system for a major offshore operation including tracking down and sorting out issues associated with Remora’s fiber-optic slip ring, installing and testing a new A/C system for the control van, and inspecting and restocking the tool van. Josh then deployed on the project and served as a key member of the Phoenix team-working many long hours to get the job done.
Josh also took on the task of preparing and testing Phoenix’s heave compensator system in advance of a lengthy rental to a customer in the South Pacific. He ensured the system was adequately spared and developed a clear and concise document describing how to operate the system.
Another example highlighting Josh as a team player involved his work in support of our underwater ship repair group on three occasions. In March, he deployed to Hampton Roads, VA to assist Phoenix’s Norfolk office in completing a diving job to improve a dry dock at the Huntington Ingalls shipbuilding facility, the next month, he traveled to Norfolk to serve as diving supervisor for a wet welding job to install a transducer mounting pole to the side of a vessel, and in November, he deployed to Bath Iron Works to act as a diving supervisor for a dry dock repair. On each of these diving jobs, Josh worked closely with customers to ensure they were satisfied with our work and went to great lengths to teach our more junior divers how to operate efficiently and effectively in accomplishing these tasks.
Throughout the year Josh also helped find and win work for Phoenix. He attended the Oceans conference in Halifax, Canada, worked on multiple proposals for ROV and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) ops, and played a key role in the development of an offshore wind proposal for Dominion Energy.
Phoenix would like to take this opportunity to thank both Randy and Josh for their exceptional work ethic and commitment to Phoenix by commending them both with this prestigious award as co-employees of the year.
