Custom Underwater Tooling & Engineering Solutions
At Phoenix International, we solve underwater challenges that standard equipment can’t. When off-the-shelf tools fall short, our engineers design and build custom solutions that help divers work faster, safer, and more effectively.
Even better, many of our engineers are certified commercial divers. As a result, every design reflects real-world experience—not just theory. This combination leads to practical, field-ready tools that perform under pressure.
Engineering Backed by Standards
We design all diver tooling and underwater equipment to meet strict industry and military standards, including:
- NAVFAC P-307
- U.S. Navy Underwater Ship Husbandry Manual
- Naval Ships’ Technical Manual (NSTM)
- Deep Diving General Overhaul Specification (DDGOS)
- ABS, Lloyd’s Register, and other commercial standards
From concept through deployment, our engineers work closely with operations teams. This ensures every solution meets technical requirements and performs reliably in the field.
Sea Chest Inspection System
This system for the U.S. Navy to inspect sea chest waster sleeves with speed and precision.
Once deployed by a diver, the system self-stabilizes. Then, it automatically performs ultrasonic and video inspections—eliminating manual handling. As a result, it reduces diver workload while improving accuracy and efficiency.
3-D Damage Assessment Tool (3-DAT)
Our in-house team created this advanced laser scanning system. Using a portable Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), it generates detailed point clouds of underwater damage.
Because it captures precise, non-contact measurements, teams can model damage accurately and plan repairs with confidence. Even in low visibility, the system delivers high-resolution 3D data. Consequently, it improves both situational awareness and decision-making.
Confined Space Rigging Equipment
Working in ballast tanks and other confined spaces presents unique challenges. Standard rigging often isn’t enough.
To address this, our engineers design custom clamps, fixtures, and handling tools for tight environments. These solutions reduce diver time in the water. At the same time, they improve safety and increase overall efficiency.
Propeller Replacement Tool
In situations where dry docking isn’t possible, we offer a smarter solution. Our engineers developed a tool that enables underwater propeller replacement without heavy rigging systems.
Notably, the system uses the replacement propeller as a counterweight. Therefore, it eliminates the need for motors or winches. This approach allows for precise alignment—even in restricted spaces—while reducing complexity and saving time.
Offshore Mooring Tools
Phoenix supports in-water repair and maintenance of Single-Point Mooring (SPM) systems.
Our teams service and maintain:
SPM buoys
Mooring chains
Floating and subsea hoses
In addition, we perform subsea hose stabilization and full hydrostatic testing of product transfer systems. As a result, we restore SPM systems quickly while maintaining the highest safety and performance standards.
From concept to execution, Phoenix delivers purpose-built solutions that perform where it matters most—underwater.
